Two Editorial Interns Wanted

DESCRIPTION
Tor Books is seeking two editorial interns for the Fall 2010 semester. The interns in this position will gain insight into the process of publishing a book at every stage, from acquisition and contracts through production and, finally, the finished product. They will learn about acquisitions, editorial review, scheduling, rights and territories, catalogue, and sales. There will also be opportunities to read and evaluate unsolicited manuscripts. While this is an editorial internship, the position will involve interaction with other departments including Production, Marketing, Ad Promo, and Publicity. Our interns have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of genre fiction, including science fiction, fantasy, horror, thriller, mystery, and romance.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties will include proofreading, evaluating manuscripts and writing reader reports, and various administrative tasks (photocopying, filing, etc.). The candidate will be handling sensitive documentation relating to all aspects of the publishing process. Our interns are encouraged to ask questions and to be proactive.

We are seeking candidates who are outgoing, with excellent organizational and computer skills and a passionate interest in learning about publishing.

REQUIREMENTS
Tor interns must make a commitment of at least two full days or three half days per week. This is a PAID internship. Students may also receive academic credit.

Interested applicants should submit a resume and cover letter to Melissa Frain at melissa.frain@tor.com.

(Tor offices are located in the Flatiron Building in New York City.)

    Darn it!
If you were on the West Coast or could intern via computer for editing and such, I would have applied!

Sounds like an amazing opportunity. Too bad I live in Canada and currently on the disabled list for a time, would have loved to do this

What is the length of the internships? When do they start? Are you going to announce it here when the spots are filled?

(God, I hope you do. The suspense is too much. I’ve been waiting since August 27th!)
