Spin eBook now available for $2.99

Spin e-book by Robert Charles Wilson is currently on sale for only $2.99!*

About Spin: One night in October when he was ten years old, Tyler Dupree stood in his back yard and watched the stars go out. They all flared into brilliance at once, then disappeared, replaced by a flat, empty black barrier. He and his best friends, Jason and Diane Lawton, had seen what became known as the Big Blackout. It would shape their lives.

The effect is worldwide. The sun is now a featureless disk–a heat source, rather than an astronomical object. The moon is gone, but tides remain. Not only have the world’s artificial satellites fallen out of orbit, their recovered remains are pitted and aged, as though they’d been in space far longer than their known lifespans. As Tyler, Jason, and Diane grow up, space probe reveals a bizarre truth: The barrier is artificial, generated by huge alien artifacts. Time is passing faster outside the barrier than inside–more than a hundred million years per day on Earth. At this rate, the death throes of the sun are only about forty years in our future.

Jason, now a promising young scientist, devotes his life to working against this slow-moving apocalypse. Diane throws herself into hedonism, marrying a sinister cult leader who’s forged a new religion out of the fears of the masses.

Earth sends terraforming machines to Mars to let the onrush of time do its work, turning the planet green. Next they send humans…and immediately get back an emissary with thousands of years of stories to tell about the settling of Mars. Then Earth’s probes reveal that an identical barrier has appeared around Mars. Jason, desperate, seeds near space with self-replicating machines that will scatter copies of themselves outward from the sun–and report back on what they find.

Life on Earth is about to get much, much stranger.

I live in France. After clicking on all the links, I found none where I could buy the ebook for $2.99. I figure if I lived in the US (or maybe even in Canada, where I did live for a number of years) I could purchase this book. This reminds me of the days when finding VHS tapes or the first DVDs with movies in English was a lot of fun… through the grey market. I think it would be polite if you added “only available in the US” (or wherever it’s available) to the title. It would save people who live elsewhere some time and grief.

I already have Spin and Axis (first edition hardcovers) and was planning to read Spin a second time on my iPad (which is much easier on my eyes), before reading the sequels. $2.99 was a good price for a book I have already paid for. Too bad… Please do something about this. It must be possible.

Or if it is in fact available to me, it should be easier to find.

PS: Tor is not the only publisher that doesn’t understand there are English speakers in the whole world, so my comment is not aimed only at Tor. Maybe Tor can be a pioneer…

After ~10 minutes of googling, I also cannot find it for $2.99 anywhere. The cheapest was $5.99 on iTunes.

This sale was from 2011 and was for a limited time only. Unless the book has gone back on sale recently, it has returned to its original price.
